Make Lemonade-- Summary

The book Make Lemonade, by Virginia Euwer Wolff is a book about a girl named La Vaughn living in a not great neighborhood who starts working as a baby sitter for a girl named Jolly. I say girl, not woman because Jolly is still a teenager. She is a seventeen year old with two kids and a job that doesn't pay well. Until La Vaughn comes and helps turn her life around (sort of), Jolly is in a bit of a mess, well, a lot of a mess when she loses her job and can't pay for basic things like new shoes, food, and toilet paper (I'm not summarizing any more of the book because I don't want to spoil it, read it! It's good).

This book really tells of the lives of people who don't have much money and don't even live in safe neighborhoods. La Vaughn throughout the book is always talking about going to college, her only way of "getting out of here". This book really made me worry for the characters (even though they are fictional) and think about the way things are for many people in the world.
