Review on Maeve's Post, "Graffiti Moon "

Check out Maeve's blog for amazing book responses: http://haveyouanythingtosay.blogspot.com/

I read Maeve's post about the book "Graffiti Moon" and really enjoyed it. I had never read the book before, so when she described in-depth how the characters were represented by things, I was very intrigued. The character Lucy was represented by her mind and her individuality, which made her unlike any one else (There is a point in Maeve's post where she talks about how "Lucy danced differently. She didn't go with the music everyone else heard. It all seemed to be in her mind."). While Ed was represented by his paintings and spray cans (She describes Ed as expressing "all those emotions through his paint. He doesn't need to be smart or good or emotional. He needs to paint.").

As well, Maeve's response to Ed's actions really helped me reflect on myself. She talked about how Ed sort of "hid" behind his artwork and street name (which is Shadow). It really made me think about myself and my peers and the people I know. Do I hide behind a distinctive trait of mine? do any of my friends? Do we have a certain quality that pops into everyone's head once they hear our name? I am quite a shy person so it seems that I might have something that I hide behind. Maeve's response to Ed's actions really helped me reflect on myself.

Maeve's was a very engaging blog post, and made the characters seem very interesting and a little mysterious. The air of mystery made me want to learn more about the characters. I would like to read the book to see how the characters interact with each other and exactly how the symbolism Maeve described works.
